How to set a whitelist on a DayZ server

You want a server for the group only, without relying only on a password that leaks on Discord. DayZ's native whitelist turns the lock on in the cfg and allows who is in whitelist.txt. The ID is not Steam64: it is the 44-character identity the server writes in the .ADM log.

Order that works: turn the lock on → someone tries to join (can be you) → copy the ID from .ADM → paste in the file (your ID first) → restart if needed.

Where the whitelist lives

  • serverDZ.cfg: enableWhitelist = 1;
  • whitelist.txt in the profiles folder (or at the root, if the server created it there)
  • .ADM log in the profiles folder (needs -adminlog on start)

1. Turn on the whitelist

Stop the server. In serverDZ.cfg:

serverDZ.cfg
enableWhitelist = 1;

Confirm -adminlog on the DayZServer_x64.exe command, or the .ADM will not appear. Start the server.

2. Get the ID

  1. Join (or ask the person to try). With an empty list, join is refused — that is expected.
  2. Open the .ADM file in the profiles folder (the one from -profiles=).
  3. Copy the 44-character ID from that attempt. Do not copy the nick. Do not use Steam64.

3. whitelist.txt

Create or edit whitelist.txt. One ID per line. Put yours first.

The example above is fake: replace it with the real ID from .ADM. Save. If the server was already running, restart to ensure it reads the file.

How to verify

  1. With your ID on the list: you join.
  2. Account off the list: refused.
  3. Steam64 alone in the file: does not allow anyone.

If it failed

  • No .ADM → missing -adminlog or wrong profiles folder.
  • Pasted Steam64 → use the 44-character ID from the log.
  • File in the wrong folder → check where the server created whitelist.txt.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you order

No. The file wants the 44-character identity ID. It appears in the .ADM log when the person tries to join.

An empty list with the lock on blocks everyone. Put your own ID first, then the group's.
