How to allow cracked players on a Minecraft server

Turning off online-mode stops account verification: someone else can use a player’s name. Back up your server and plan account protection before following the RoxyCloud steps below. Do not use this setting just to fix a connection error.

To allow cracked players on a Minecraft Java server, the field is online-mode in server.properties. true only lets Microsoft accounts in. false accepts a launcher without that account.

Steps in the panel

  1. Open the server panel and go to Power. Stop Minecraft.
  2. Open Files and find server.properties in the server folder.
  3. Find the line online-mode=true.
  4. Change it to online-mode=false.
  5. Save the file.
  6. Go back to Power and start the server.

online-mode=false

If the line is missing, add it at the end of the file, one line, no spaces around =.

What changes after

  • Players without a Microsoft account can join the IP.
  • Official Mojang skins disappear for those accounts.
  • Anyone can use any name. On a public server, use a whitelist or a password plugin.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you order

Stop the server, open server.properties, change online-mode=true to online-mode=false, save and start again. Works on Java (Paper, Spigot, Purpur, Vanilla).

online-mode=true requires a Microsoft/Mojang account. online-mode=false accepts a launcher without that account (offline / cracked).

No. The native server.properties field already allows the join. A login plugin is only for public servers that want a password.

No. This guide is Java. Phones and consoles use another file and another flow.

If the world already ran with official accounts only (online-mode=true), yes. Switching to false makes the same name a new player. Inventory, ender chest and position reset. Back up first.
