How to let only people you approve into Terraria (TShock)

With TShock enabled on RoxyCloud you can close the server to anyone not on the list. The native list works with IP, not with the nick lucia.terra.

Turn on the list in config.json

  1. Open the panel and your server in TShock mode.
  2. Stop the server with Power.
  3. Open Files.
  4. Go into the tshock folder.
  5. Open the config.json file.
  6. Find EnableWhitelist and change it to true.
  7. If you want, edit WhitelistKickReason with the kick message.
  8. Save.
  9. Start the server with Power.
tshock/config.json (snippet)
"EnableWhitelist": true,
"WhitelistKickReason": "Ask the caverna-azul admin for your IP."

Add an IP in the Console

  1. With the server running, open the Console tab.
  2. Send the whitelist command followed by the IP.
Panel Console
whitelist 203.0.113.40

The Console confirms when the IP joins the list. The person tries again through multiplayer. If their IP changes (mobile data, another Wi-Fi), add the new address.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you order

Not in the native TShock list. You allow the IP address. A third-party plugin can change that, but the panel default is IP.

Yes. Vanilla Terraria has no whitelist. On RoxyCloud plans use the TShock engine. If you only want a closed door, the config.txt password already works for many groups.

When someone tries to join without being on the list, the Console usually shows the IP of the attempt. You can also ask for their public IP if you prefer to add it first.
