How to install Workshop mods on a DayZ server

You want Community Framework, COT or another Workshop mod on the dedicated server. In DayZ that is not “enabled in the panel”: you download with SteamCMD, put the folder next to the server, copy the .bikey and add -mod= to the start command. The client needs the same list, in the same order.

Get vanilla up and someone joining before stacking mods. Mixing a broken download with a wrong cfg turns into an all-night debug session.

1. Download with SteamCMD

Log in with the same account that owns DayZ. Replace 1559212036 with the ID from the Workshop page (it is in the URL).

SteamCMD
login YOUR_USER
workshop_download_item 221100 1559212036

Content lands in steamapps\workshop\content\221100\ID. Copy that folder to C:\DayZServer and rename it to @ModName, no spaces.

2. Copy the keys

Inside the mod there is a keys folder with a .bikey file. Copy the .bikey to C:\DayZServer\keys. Without that, verifySignatures blocks joins.

3. Start with -mod=

start
cd /d C:\DayZServer
DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -dologs -adminlog "-mod=@CF;@YourMod"

Order in -mod= matters. Framework (CF) almost always goes first. In the client launcher: the same sequence.

How to verify

  1. Server starts with -mod= without closing immediately.
  2. Client with the same list joins.
  3. Client without the mod: refuse or missing signature/mods warning.

If it failed

  • Missing .bikey in keys → verifySignatures blocks.
  • Different order on the client → cannot join.
  • Used 223350 in workshop_download_item → download again with 221100.
  • Vanilla never tested → remove -mod=, confirm the dedicated, then put it back.
