How to change the DayZ server name

You want the server to show a readable name on the list (or in the group Discord), not the generic hostname from the sample cfg. In DayZ the list name is the hostname field. One file, one restart.

This does not change the IP, the join password or the map. Only the text the client shows.

Where the name lives

C:\DayZServer\serverDZ.cfg, hostname line. Quotes around the text and a semicolon at the end. A very long name gets cut on the client list.

Step by step

1. Stop DayZServer_x64.exe.
2. Open C:\DayZServer\serverDZ.cfg in Notepad.
3. Edit the hostname line.
4. Save and start the server again.

How to verify

1. Open the DayZ client and find the server on the list (or use Direct Connect and look at the name on the connection screen).
2. The text should be what you put in hostname.

If it failed

• Server will not come back → line without ; or unclosed quotes.
• Old name on the list → old process still running; end it in Task Manager and start again.
• Not found on the list → firewall on 27016; Direct Connect still works with IP:2302.
