How to change world difficulty on a Terraria server

In the RoxyCloud panel difficulty lives under Startup. An existing world does not turn Expert on its own: you pick a new save name or upload a world already on that difficulty.

How to change world difficulty on a Terraria server

Terraria world difficulty (Classic, Expert, Master and panel variants) belongs to the world file. Changing the menu in Startup and keeping the same .wld does not rewrite the old map.

Start a new world with the difficulty you want

  1. Open the RoxyCloud panel and your server.
  2. Stop it with Power.
  3. Open the Startup tab.
  4. In the save name field, type a new name, for example caverna-azul-expert.
  5. In the difficulty field, pick the level you want.
  6. Save the panel options if it asks.
  7. Start the server with Power and wait for the Console to finish generating the world.

Use a world you already have on the right difficulty

If Expert or Master was created on your PC, upload the .wld and set the name in Startup. The upload world guide covers the Worlds folder and the name field.

What does not work

  • Only changing the dropdown and keeping the same save name.
  • Expecting Expert to appear on an old Classic world by itself.
  • Deleting the .wld without a backup thinking the panel will rebuild your progress.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you order

Not with the dropdown. Difficulty is set when the world is created. To play Expert you make a new save or upload a .wld that was already generated on that difficulty.

The server keeps opening the old .wld with the difficulty that file already has. The new setting only works when you point to a world name that does not exist yet or to the right file.

In the panel Startup tab, in the save name field (world name). It must match the Worlds folder and the .wld file.
