What changes in PalWorldSettings.ini (and how to edit it)

Almost everything that defines your Palworld room goes through PalWorldSettings.ini: name, password, how many can join, item loss on death, day and night speed, raids, and base size. On RoxyCloud you edit through Files with the server stopped in Power. This guide explains the file path and what each common key does.

Where to edit in the panel

  1. Open your Palworld server panel on RoxyCloud.
  2. Stop the server in the Power tab.
  3. Open Files.
  4. Go to Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ or Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ (use your server Config folder).
  5. Open PalWorldSettings.ini.
  6. Edit the OptionSettings=(...) line.
  7. Save the file.
  8. Start the server again in Power.

Room: name, password, and slots

  • ServerName: name in search. Use something unique like vale-cattiva or nina.pal.
  • ServerDescription: short line. Helps friends find the right room.
  • ServerPassword: leave empty for open room or set a shared group password.
  • AdminPassword: required if you want admin commands. Do not reuse the panel password.
  • ServerPlayerMaxNum: player cap. Also respect Cattiva, Grizzbolt, or Kitsun plan limits.

World and difficulty

DeathPenalty controls death punishment. None removes loss, Item drops inventory, ItemAndEquipment includes gear, All is the harshest. ExpRate speeds leveling. DayTimeSpeedRate and NightTimeSpeedRate change day/night cycle without directly touching combat.

Difficulty snippet
DeathPenalty=Item,ExpRate=1.500000,DayTimeSpeedRate=1.000000,NightTimeSpeedRate=1.000000

Combat and raids

bEnableInvaderEnemy turns base raids on or off. PalDamageRateAttack and PalDamageRateDefense tune Pal combat. Values above 1.0 make the world more lethal. Only combine with high ExpRate if you want fast progress and high risk.

Bases and guild

  • BaseCampMaxNumInGuild: how many bases the guild can have on the map.
  • BaseCampWorkerMaxNum: Pal worker limit at each base.
  • GuildPlayerMaxNum: max guild size.
  • Changes here do not retroactively fit old saves full of structures. Back up first.

Items and gathering

CollectionDropRate multiplies what you get when farming resources. DropItemMaxNum controls how many items can sit on the ground before the server cleans up. On a busy public server, too low makes items vanish fast; too high loads CPU.

Eggs and starting spawn

  • PalEggDefaultHatchingTime: hours to hatch an egg. Lower for a casual server.
  • bIsStartLocationSelectByMap=False: player cannot pick a map point when creating a character.

Intense mode (no magic button)

Palworld does not expose one documented key like bHardcoreMode on all builds. What players call intense mode is usually aggressive rate combos:

  • Low ExpRate (e.g. 0.5) for slow progress.
  • High PalDamageRateAttack in a hostile world.
  • DeathPenalty=All or ItemAndEquipment.
  • Low WorkSpeedRate for a tough base.
  • bEnableInvaderEnemy=True at default frequency.

Depressed Pals and work sanity

There is no guaranteed one-click key for Pal sanity or mood on all patches. What helps in practice are work and needs levers:

  • WorkSpeedRate: Pals finish tasks faster (less time stressed in the same queue).
  • PalStaminaDecreaceRate: lower value makes stamina drop slowly.
  • PalStomachDecreaceRate: lower value cuts hunger (fewer trough trips).
  • Base infra (beds, food, hot spring) still matters. Config does not fix bad layout.

Console and Startup

Some options also show in the Startup tab (environment variables). If you edit ini and Startup at the same time, what the server actually loads on boot wins. When in doubt, check Console after start. Live commands vary by version.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you order

In the server Config folder, file PalWorldSettings.ini. Typical path: Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ (Linux hosts) or WindowsServer/ (Windows hosts).

Yes. Stop in Power, edit, save, and start again. Editing while the world runs can be ignored or corrupt config.

Not officially as one switch. Intense mode in practice means raising ExpRate, WorkSpeedRate, and damage rates together. Tune slowly and back up first.
