Backup and save swap on Palworld

Palworld saves on the host are folders on disk, not an automatic cloud button. On RoxyCloud you download through Files, keep a copy, and only then send another world or restore. Without stopping in Power and without backup, you risk losing base, Pals, and hours of farming.

Back up the current save

  1. Tell your group the server will go offline.
  2. Open the panel and stop the server in Power.
  3. Go to Files.
  4. Browse to Pal/Saved/SaveGames.
  5. Select the world folder (long name with ID) or zip the full SaveGames folder.
  6. Download the .zip to your PC.
  7. Rename the file with date and world name, for example vale-cattiva-2026-09-13.zip.

Restore a backup

  1. Stop the server in Power.
  2. Optional: rename the current SaveGames folder to SaveGames_old (through Files).
  3. Upload the backup .zip.
  4. Extract inside Pal/Saved to recreate SaveGames with the old content.
  5. Confirm the world folder shows .sav files or the expected structure.
  6. Start in Power and test alone before opening to everyone.

Switch to another save (new or imported world)

Want to bring a world that ran on PC or another host? Same flow as restore, but you upload the folder exported from the other environment.

  1. On the source PC, find the save in Pal/Saved/SaveGames.
  2. Zip the world folder.
  3. In the RoxyCloud panel, stop in Power.
  4. Back up the save that is online today (previous step).
  5. Delete or move the old world folder in SaveGames.
  6. Upload and extract the new save in the same SaveGames.
  7. Adjust ServerName in PalWorldSettings.ini if you want a readable name, for example nina.pal.
  8. Start the server and test joining.

World name and server list

The name friends see in search comes from ServerName in the ini. The SaveGames folder uses an internal ID. They do not need to match, but mixing folders on upload swaps the wrong world.

  • ServerName: nice label (vale-cattiva, nina.pal).
  • SaveGames folder: technical ID generated by the game.
  • After swapping save, ask everyone to leave and rejoin.
  • Game version and mods must match the imported save.

When to run routine backups

  • Before installing or removing .pak mods.
  • Before updating branch or a big patch (Feybreak and similar).
  • Before editing PalWorldSettings.ini with heavy difficulty changes.
  • Once a week on an active public server.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you order

In Pal/Saved/SaveGames, inside the Palworld install on the host. Some panels show only Saved: in that case enter SaveGames or download the full Saved folder.

No. Always stop in Power before downloading or uploading files. A save in use corrupts easily.

Yes. The folder inside SaveGames identifies the world. Swap or rename only while stopped, with backup, and align ServerName in the ini if you want a nice list name.
